Its March 1, 2011. My wife and I will be walking at the D.c. 3 day.
Although we started fundraising last year, we had our first fundraiser this year (a casino bus trip). I guess it was time to get recharged. Living by Lake Erie, the winter talk is usually just about the weather. I think we lose focus about the fight! We sit around and watch it snow, thinking when will it end. Back in our minds, we think about the 3-day, but its off in the future. What about the snow? When will spring get here?
Ok. It's March 1. Spring is coming. I am guilty. Over the winter I talked about the 3-day, the awesome experience, the fun of fundraising - hearing those great survivor stories, etc. Now its time to get focused. Now is the time to get off the couch and start reliving what the 3-day is all about.
I recently was talking to a great survivor who was just starting her chemo. My heart just sank, thinking about what she will be enduring.
Did you ever think about 1 in 8? Did you ever think about when standing in line at a check out counter and count the women -1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8!
Out of that small group 1 will experience breast cancer at some point in their lifetime! Those odds stink.
Its time to walk the walk and not just do the talk. The 3-day is an outstanding event that will change your life forever, and will possibly change someone you meet too!
Fundraising is a great way to get awareness up. Getting the word out that early detection increases your chances of survival. It is also very motivating talking to people about their survivor story or the ones that lost the battle.
Breast cancer- you have picked a fight with a lot of great people and we will fight you until you do not destroy our lives anymore.
Thank you,
Michael David
